8 Reviews of the Southwold 4+2 Air

By: Barbara C  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2014   Rating:

First 2 seasons it was fine. This year I did not check it before setting off to cornwall. It would not inflate - the air was escaping from the exterior pipes where it deflates. After binding with adhesive tape, we got the tent up, but there were other leaks of air, so we had to bind all the connecting pipes. Kampa offered a full set of replacement tubes, but none in stock at the time. They would not take the tent back to do the necessary work themselves. CHECK BEFORE SETTING OUT!

These type of tents may not be new but they are definitely the future. I also own a polycotton Vango carrera 6. This material is far better and wish I'd done the sensible thing and bought a polycotton air beam tent. That said my kampa is fantastic and had no problems whatsoever with it. I did have a little air leak problem and I mentioned it to my supplier who unbeknownst to me ordered me a full set of air poles free of charge. FANTASTIC. The said supplier was Outdoor Action in Blackburn. Outstanding service and the guys know what they're talking about. Highly recommend them if you're within reasonable driving range. Anyways had no problems since and I'm still using the original poles. Bit of a cardio workout pumping it up but it's up in no time and beer cracked long before others have finished erecting their metal pole tents. Very happy with my tent. Well worth the purchase. It also handles harsh weather with ease. Buy an air beam tent. You'll wish you'd have done it long ago.

Upgraded to an inflatable tent for ease. We were not disappointed with this tent. We nearly bought the electric pump but glad we saved the £80 as it is easy with the hand pump. Erected a lot quicker than my old pole tent. Heavy rain the first time that we used it and it was fine, no damp patches on our beds which happened with my last Vango. Bought as a package as the deal was worth it. Very spacious tent even if you put the 2 person pod up. The inflatable poles are solid and extra protection around the bottom of the inflatable poles. You can just inflate and deflate in one go as the air poles are connected but can be cut off with a twisting valve if need be (so if. One pole failed, your whole tent would not go down). Happy with my purchase as I got fed up with the pole versions and this one has nice pocket sections inside to. I like the mesh areas to as it lets enough breeze in but keeps the mossis out.

I bought and used it last year. I did wonder if it was as easy as it said in the video. On arrival at our pitch there was a family with 3 teenagers putting a frame tent up of a similar size. We unpacked, blew up and decked out our tent in twenty minutes. The family at the side spent another half hour with my help putting up their tent. I thought at the time this way will soon be old hat.

The family were impressed with our tent and was thinking about an inflatable tent for this year. That week we had two other couples enquire about the tent. I gave them a quick guided tour and demo. They too were impressed

Would endorse everything Cmcpne as written. Only downside I found the tent was heavy to load into the trailer with a pulled muscle in my thigh muscle at the time.

In conclusion it was quick and simple but the pumping up the airbeams was twice the effort what it said in the manufactures video but still ok. Could use a electric pump instead of a double action pump if you have health problems.

Can not wait to use it again this year!

After 5 days (!) one tube was leak and another one was full of slits. The tent collapsed and we werent able to camp in it.

I expect quality after spending more than 1200 euros for a tent. And Kampa didnt answer my questions about the cause !

They are trying to fix the problem in their factory. But what will happen if they replace the tubes with the same type of tubes? Will the tent again collapse after 5 days of camping?

We purchased this tent with the side extension, carpet and footprint for half price. Initially, we set it up in the garden to ensure everything was working. We soon realised that pumping the tent up was far harder than the videos led us to believe, so we purchased a 12v pump.

We have now taken the tent for a week's camping and the weather went from baking hot to torrential rain, with thunderstorms, lightning and extreme winds. We were pitched at the edge of beach, so that we got the full force of the wind off the sea. This tent stood up to a battering and did not leak one drop of water. On the very hot days we did get condensation in the morning, but it was so humid even the polycotton tents did as well.

In summary, this tent is fantastic. Quick to erect and package away, it is also is well made and good quality materials. There was plenty of room for me, my husband and our three dogs, with all the furniture for glamping. I am very impressed and that's why I have given it a 10.

We did wonder if it would be as easy as the website states to put up and get down and it really is. We had given up camping because of the hassle of putting the tents up and now we are so glad we saw the airbeam models.

So first (and so far only) camping trip with our Southwold 4+2 and can only say we are very, very impressed. The tent is just super!

There are only two of us and although it's a four berth tent I'm not sure where we would have put two other people but then that is usually the case with tents. For two of us the tent proved spacious and comfortable with lots of light and plenty of ventilation. We are heading to the south of France in June so will need the fly screened windows even more than we did over a sunny Easter weekend in Cheshire.

Both doors have a small canopy to help with keeping the rain out when you are going in and out and there is a big porch/canopy available as an extra but we haven't bought one and don't think we will boher as they are very expensive.

Plenty of storage pockets in the main tent and in the sleeping compartment and an EHU entry point at either side (which is great as there is a door at either side too so easy to pitch in the best spot.)

Hanging point and cable tidy in the main tent and a hook in the sleeping bit too make it easy to use any kind of electric light and we used an inspection type lamp which we knew would give us a useful light.

We bought the footprint and the carpet as we have always found both invaluable with previous tents.

Yes the tent packed away is big but to us it's big and beautiful!

When spending £1000 on a tent I expect quality. What I got was nothing but headaches. The first time we used it was for a week long holiday. Sadly the week quickly turned into four hours trying to fix various leeks in the connecting tubes. We were told that if a tube fails the tent would stay up because you can isolate it. This is not the case. We isolated it but the tent went down completely in ten minutes. After giving up and undertaking a very sad return journey home I took it back to Highbridge Camping who said that Kampa knew of the quality of early models and had fixed the issue. If they knew of the problem then why didn't they recall it. To add insult to injury, the shop is now messing me around with regards to a refund and I have been waiting three weeks so far.
